Full Moon Rising.

Did anyone notice the moon last night? It was the biggest and brightest one of this year, sure to amaze everyone who saw it. It was hard to miss it. It seemed as if you could reach out and touch it.

Earth, the moon and the sun are all bound together by gravity, this keeps us going around the sun and keeps the moon going around us. The moon makes a trip around Earth about every 30 days. The orbit is not a perfect circle. One part is about 31,000 miles closer to our planet than the farthest part, so the moon's apparent size in the sky changes. Saturday night January 10th the moon was the closest point to us on this orbit.

It really was beautiful. Here is a picture we took last night.

  1. It was too cloudy here last night to get a good look. We have a big telescope to look at these wonderful space events, but the weather never cooperates when it's time. Great picture!!

  3. I didn't notice the moon directly. But as I was making sure all the door were locked last night I opened the back door and the yard was so bright I though someone had left on our yard light!!---As I studied longer...I said to myself..."That's one bright moon light!"
